Interpreting
What information do you need for a quote?
In order to provide you with an accurate quotation, we need to know the key details of the event: the venue, the event dates, the scheduled times, and the source and target languages to be interpreted. It is also important that we know which interpreting technology you plan to use and whether you have already organised this or if we should arrange it for you. We also need to know the subject matter of the event so that we can select the right interpreters for the job.
What is the difference between simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpreting?
Simultaneous interpreting: the interpreters speak almost simultaneously with the speaker and usually use technical aids such as booths or tour guide systems.
Consecutive interpreting: the speaker talks in sections while the interpreter makes notes using a special technique and then interprets the content after each section.
Whispered interpreting: the interpreter sits directly next to the target person and whispers the content to them without technology.
What does source language mean?
The source language is the main conference language that speakers will be using at the event. In the DACH region this is usually German or English.
Does it matter whether German or English is spoken?
Yes. The actual source language is important to know in advance. Although some interpreters on the German market work with German and English as active working languages, the source language has to be clarified in advance. If this is not yet certain in your planning, we can of course book interpreters who work from and into both languages.
Why do interpreters (almost) always work in pairs?
Due to the high level of concentration required during simultaneous interpreting, interpreters always work in a team of two. For very complex topics, they even work in teams of three. They alternate seamlessly every 20-30 minutes. This means that if the event lasts more than an hour, two interpreters are usually scheduled. For events lasting up to around one hour, we can discuss the scheduling of interpreters in consultation with our team and, as long as sufficient preparation materials are provided in advance, it may be possible to work with just one interpreter. If only one interpreter is booked, a break of at least 10-15 minutes must be included in your planning after approx. 40 minutes.
How much does an interpreter cost?
Conference interpreter teams normally charge a daily rate. If more than 7–8 hours of work are required, additional hours cost extra. A standby time of 30 minutes before the start of the event is free of charge. Travel expenses and any overnight stays are added to this. We always try to give preference to interpreters based at your event location to minimise travel costs.
Do you provide interpreting equipment and platforms?
Yes, we offer a full range of technical equipment, including
- Conference interpreting booths
- Whispering systems and mobile tour guide systems
- Remote interpreting platforms (RSI) for virtual events
- AI support, if feasible
Our technical partners ensure smooth integration and reliable quality. Additional event technology such as audio systems, screens, etc. can also be provided on request.Verfügung gestellt werden.
Can AI already be used for interpreting today?
Yes, nowadays AI can even be used for interpreting. However, by relying on the cloud, the content will not be confidential. For good speech recognition, it is important that your speakers speak clearly and fluently. The use of AI interpreting is particularly suitable for tight budgets or, for example, breakout sessions or parallel workshops that take place as part of a larger event.
What does on-site support mean?
Our on-site support ensures a smooth process and coordination between you as the customer, the interpreting team and the technicians. On-site support is available as a central point of contact for all matters relating to interpreting. For example, we take care of the team briefing, feedback loops and quality control during the event, check the technology and cover the transfer of the team from one place to another at complex, large-scale events.

What are your quality standards?
Allround Service is certified according to DIN EN ISO 23155, which determine the fundamentals of conference interpreting service and the requirements on conference interpreters. The standard also sets out possible conference interpretation situations and techniques. We work with native-speaking specialist interpreters, most of whom have long-standing business relationships with us.
Translations
How long does a translation take?
It depends on the complexity, volume and required quality level. Typically, we can complete smaller projects within a few days. For larger or very specialized projects, we can create a customized schedule according to your requirements.
Can you provide certified translations?
Yes, we offer certified translations, which are prepared by authorized translators. These are often required for legal documents, certificates and other official documents. We can also provide apostilles upon request.
What is machine translation with post-editing?
This involves machine translating the text using existing terminology databases. An experienced professional translator then edits the machine-generated draft to optimize it linguistically, grammatically and stylistically. This option is ideal for projects with tight budgets or shorter deadlines. The prerequisite is that the source documents are in an editable format and are not confidential.
What is an editable format?
By this we mean file formats that can be edited in overwrite mode; for example, the usual Office applications, but also JSON or SRT files. If the editable text contains non-editable graphics, they will not be recognised by the machine translation tool.
What does CAT tool mean?
CAT tool stands for Computer Assisted Translation Tool and describes an application that facilitates and accelerates translation processes and improves their quality. In particular, the creation of a TM (translation memory) makes translations more standardised and less expensive. Term databases ensure terminological consistency.
Which CAT tools do you use?
We use XTM and Trados as our standard software.
How are the prices determined?
We normally charge per word for translation and proofreading. In rare cases, for example when revising texts, hourly rates may apply.
Are feedback loops included in the price?
General queries regarding coordination, terminology and wording, they are included. Extensive feedback loops to determine how texts and terminology should be handled are charged at an hourly rate based on the effort involved.
Is layout editing included in the price?
In PREMIUM mode, layout editing is included in the price. Depending on the complexity of the formatting, additional costs may apply in EXPERT and CORE mode if layout editing is required or necessary.
Why are translation and video translation mentioned separately?
In video translation, there is no written source text. The video must first be transcribed for editing. If subtitles are to be added later, the length of the text must also be taken into account during translation.

What are your quality standards?

DIN recommends that translations are proofread by a second person so as to ensure that quality control is carried out and that quality standards are adhered to. Transcripts
What is the difference between CORE, EXPERT and PREMIUM transcriptions?
CORE transcription: a fast transcription service that is ideal for internal editing or as a working template.
EXPERT transcription: these transcripts include more detailed analysis, including speaker identification and grammatical adjustments.
PREMIUM transcription: the highest quality option with additional phonetic rendering of unintelligible passages, time codes and comprehensive formatting. They are ideal for professional publications or media projects.
What is the difference between transcription and video transcription?
With video transcription, we capture the spoken text from the video in a form that is also suitable for subtitles. The transcription is done either in a Word document, which can be used as a template for the subtitles, or directly into an SRT file.
How do you charge for transcripts?
We usually charge per minute.
What transcription rules do you follow?
We are guided by the client’s wishes. On request, we can record the exact wording according to your own transcription rules. A surcharge may apply for very complicated rules or for acoustically challenging source files.
