Artificial Intelligence in the Interpreting Booth

In our last article, we explored how artificial intelligence is being used in the translation industry. But AI is gaining ground in the interpreting world as well. Today, there are even apps that can transcribe spoken language on the spot—perfect for those moments on vacation when not even hand gestures will do the trick.

In professional settings, too, there are now impressive, modern solutions to make multilingual communication more accessible to current and potential clients.

Partnership with Interprefy

One of our partners on this journey is Interprefy—the global leader in remote simultaneous interpreting software and services.

Through Interprefy, we can connect interpreters from anywhere in the world in a professional virtual environment. At the same time, clients retain full flexibility over how their event is set up:

  • Online business meetings on the Interprefy platform or any other preferred conferencing tool such as MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.
  • Hybrid events with on-site and virtual attendees
  • Webinars
  • Live streaming events
  • And more

The Role of AI and Human Interpreters

So much regarding the technical setup but where does AI come in?

All of these formats can be supported by professional simultaneous interpreters, working either remotely or from a physical booth. But they can also be powered by AI speech translation.

In this setup, spoken language is interpreted by an AI system with just a few seconds’ delay, using the latest technology. Interprefy offers a range of AI-generated voices that sound as natural as possible and can be tailored to fit each event. AI speech translation is particularly cost-effective and can be deployed at short notice.

Subtitles for Greater Accessibility

But that’s not all: it’s now also possible to generate multilingual subtitles in real time. These captions can transcribe spoken language to improve accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing or provide translations for international audiences. Users can customize subtitle settings, switch between languages, and adjust text size as needed.

AI opens up a world of possibilities. There’s something for everyone. We’re here to help you find the right solution and create the perfect setup, whether powered by human expertise or artificial intelligence.

Accelerating into the Future: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at BMW M Mixed Reality

We recently had the privilege of supporting the BMW M event at the racetrack with our team of interpreters and found ourselves witnessing something truly out of the ordinary: BMW M Mixed Reality. A heartfelt thank you to Ms Cassandra Degenhart for giving us this fascinating glimpse behind the scenes.

Where the Racetrack Meets the Virtual World

What BMW M unveiled here is far more than a clever gimmick or a flashy bit of tech – it’s a next-generation driving experience. BMW M Mixed Reality blends real-world driving dynamics with immersive virtual worlds – creating something entirely new: a fusion of authentic adrenaline and digital freedom.

You’re seated in a real BMW M4, feeling every movement, every bend, every squeal of the tyres – while the VR headset reveals a completely different world: futuristic circuits, digital landscapes, imaginative racing environments that couldn’t possibly exist in real life.

Goosebumps Included

This experience is powered by a highly complex interplay of GPS data, vehicle motion, and driver interaction – all perfectly synchronised in real time. And yet, what impressed us most wasn’t just the tech, but the feeling: the drivers’ excitement, the glowing faces as they stepped out of the car, the reactions from the team – and yes, our own sense of wonder too.

We support many events. But this one stood out. Not just because we witnessed a new chapter in driving experiences being written, but because we genuinely felt: something is being created here that has the potential to reshape the automotive world – appealing not only to tech-savvy motorsport fans, but to anyone with a passion for innovation.

Our Takeaway: Wow!

We’re truly impressed – by the technology, the concept, and of course, the experience behind the wheel. It was not only exciting to be there, but a real privilege to gain this first-hand insight. Once again, our thanks to Ms Cassandra Degenhart for making it possible. Technology meets emotion – and we were there to witness it. A genuine highlight for us.

AI and machine translation in the translation industry

Today, not a single industry can afford to ignore artificial intelligence (AI). This includes language service providers in the fields of translation and interpreting. We do not want to ignore these new developments either as they can bring many benefits to our customers and our working processes.

Artificial intelligence and machine translation have revolutionised the way in which we deal with languages and communication.

In our view, the integration of artificial intelligence and machine translation creates a significant opportunity but does present a clear challenge. The rapid development of these technologies has transformed the translation industry, offering both efficiency gains and the emergence of new business models.

AI-powered machine translation provides significant benefits in terms of speed and cost efficiency. Popular tools like Systran and DeepL can translate vast amounts of text in a matter seconds, often delivering satisfactory quality. These tools are best suited to translating general texts or documents without sensitive information, as they can be translated faster and more cost effectively.

A crucial factor is delivering quality when it comes to more complex texts, where subtle meanings or cultural nuances are key.  Translations of technical texts involving specific terminology often fall short of expectations. This also applies to languages that are rarely localised, such as Urdu, Kurmanji or Maltese, as comparatively few materials exist to train the machine.

This is where the expertise of human translators comes in. As an innovative, customer-centric translation agency, we don’t replace human translators with AI-based systems. Instead, we leverage them as a valuable tool to enhance and streamline the translation process. An AI tool can generate an initial draft, for instance, which is then fine-tuned by our skilled teams of translators. This step guarantees that the text has precisely the right style, idiomatic expressions, and overall content.

With our AI-supported systems, we can cross-check the translation using databases and previous projects to pinpoint inconsistencies and improve quality.

Ultimately, the combination of AI and human expertise is unlocking new opportunities for the translation industry. We are able to provide our services more efficiently and cost-effectively, while upholding the high quality standards our customers rightly expect. Through this approach, we are bridging the gap between traditional business models and the digital landscape.

Diversity unites us

Connecting cultures is a matter close to our heart and forms the core of our day-to-day business. This includes respecting all religions. We would therefore like to wish the Muslim community wonderful Iftār gatherings during the fasting month of Ramadan! Many Christians have also recently started Lent. Judaism, on the other hand, has several fasting periods throughout the year.

Our team represents interculturality at its best and recently came together for a multicultural evening with representatives from Ukraine, Germany, China, the Netherlands, Tunisia and Mauritius all at the same table 😊

We are currently supporting the automotive event of a prominent manufacturer in Abu Dhabi, where we are experiencing the Muslim culture up close and in person.

Q4 Highlights: The Final Countdown!

As we come to the end of the year, it’s fitting that we’re wrapping things up the same way we started – working on another exciting automotive project. This time, we had the chance to support our client in Portimão, giving a perfect finish to a year packed with automotive encounters.

Alongside ongoing interpreting projects, we’ve also been busy with translating, post-editing MT work, and meticulously proofreading the financial and non-financial annual reports for our clients. What made this even more exciting was the fact that we carried out all of this directly within their system, ensuring seamless integration and flawless results every step of the way.

Additionally, we’ve made some important upgrades to our IT system, making it more efficient, secure, and reliable. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to deliver the best service possible, while ensuring the confidentiality of your data.

As the holiday season is upon us, we want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We’d also like to express our deepest gratitude to our clients, freelancers, and partners. This year has been a true success, and each and every one of you has been a part of it. Thank you for your trust, partnership, and support.

Here’s to another year of growth, new opportunities, and exciting projects. See you in 2025…

Q3 Recap: Embracing Innovation and Global Connections

Third quarter saw us hard at work, supporting our clients across a range of industries. One of the standout moments this quarter was a project in London, where we had the opportunity to assist one of our clients on the international stage. It’s always exciting to support our clients not just locally, but across borders, too.

In addition to our regular project work, we also embraced the latest industry trends. We’ve been diving deep into the world of AI and other innovations, staying ahead of the curve while discussing future ways of working with our partners.

Meanwhile, our dedication to delivering high-quality solutions remains unwavering. One of our proudest achievements this quarter was localizing a website into 17 languages for a client in the cosmetics and food supplements sector, ensuring seamless global reach and culturally tailored messaging. Q3 was full of exciting milestones, and we’re thrilled to have so much to share with you. The journey doesn’t stop here – we have so many more things to look forward to. Stay tuned!

Next Stop: Q2 Highlights

And just like that, we’re moving on to Q2! While we kept up our strong momentum in the automotive sector, we also shifted gears to focus on providing top-notch interpreting services for board meetings and internal conferences – helping our clients communicate effortlessly across the board (literally!).

One of the real highlights was an event in Milan, where we had the pleasure of supporting one of our long-time clients for their European Works Council Meeting. Although it wasn’t our first time in Milan with this client, it is always nice to be back as we enjoy working under the Italian sun and ensuring everything goes off without a hitch.

As always, we were also busy with translations and transcriptions. One of the standout projects this quarter was the transcription of a three-day general assembly meeting—a comprehensive task involving around 25 hours of recordings. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s tremendous efforts in delivering flawless results.

All in all, it’s been another amazing quarter, and we’re really looking forward to sharing more of our wins with you soon. Stay tuned – more to come.

Celebrating a Year of Success: Q1 Highlights

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2024, it’s time to take a look back and celebrate the successes we’ve enjoyed this year. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing four posts that highlight some of our proudest moments from 2024. First up, let’s look back at Q1, where we had the privilege of working on some truly incredible projects.

We hit the ground running organising various activities for our automotive clients, ranging from enthralling conferences, practical workshops, and even some large-scale marketing events. It was all hands-on deck, but all our work paid off handsomely. We assembled some fantastic interpreter teams to ensure every event went perfectly.

But it didn’t stop there. In Q1, we were also able to support many of our clients with translation services in a variety of areas. In handling promotional materials, medical reports, internal minutes, and legal documents, our team worked tirelessly to deliver translations that were culturally appropriate, as well as accurate and clear. One particular highlight was a major video translation project, where we localized content into numerous languages, helping our clients connect with global audiences.

It was a jam-packed start to the year, and we couldn’t be prouder of our accomplishments. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to reflect on a year of strong growth and success!
